Elon Musk’s The Boring Company’s (TBC) Nevada tunneling project has come under further fire for a toxic-looking green pond in Las Vegas that its workers allegedly tried to conceal. 

Las Vegas Locally took to X over a week ago with an image of the pond it called a swamp while making a topical mosquito jibe:

According to 8 News Now on Wednesday, its investigative reporters filmed construction crews working on the “visible, deep pond, roughly the size of a tennis court” near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The news channel stated that site workers questioned why the 8 News Now crew was filming the TBC project, adding shortly after they arrived, construction crews “rushed to cover the fence surrounding it.”

Workers allegedly “began to add a black tarp to the fence surrounding it” while also adding “a layer on top of razor wire encircling the site.”

One site worker reportedly told journalists: “I know what you are. You’re fake news.”

Boring, meanwhile, took to X to state the pond was: “Certainly not being hidden – is in clear view” and that regulators and construction pros had visited the site “due to the unique nature of the construction.” TBC added that there were “Zero health risks.”

The pond saga comes after the Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD) fined TBC nearly $500,000 for serious environmental violations earlier this month.

The record CCWRD fine came after Musk’s firm was allegedly caught illicitly dumping toxic “drilling fluids” into county manholes and sewers. TBC has, however, accepted responsibility for the discharge violations and pledged not to expand its drilling operations until “certain conditions” were met.
