India vs England 4th Test Day 4 Highlights: Shubman Gill, KL Rahul Keep India Steady at 174/2, Trail by 137 Runs at Stumps

India made a strong comeback on Day 4 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford after starting their second innings at 0/2 in the first over. Captain Shubman Gill and opener KL Rahul made a strong partnership, scoring 174 runs without losing a wicket.

India finished the day at 174/2, still behind England by 137 runs. Ben Stokes scored a great 141, helping England reach 669 – the biggest Test score at Old Trafford – putting a lot of pressure on India.

But, Gill’s amazing run, along with Rahul’s strong spirit, made for an exciting Day 5 with the series at stake.

[WHAT’S HAPPENING] From Nightmare to Hope: India’s Revival Begins

England scored a big first-innings total of 669, with captain Ben Stokes making a strong 141, which seemed to put India in a tough spot. After the hosts showed they were in charge on a sunny morning, India’s turn to bat started badly both Yashasvi Jaiswal and newcomer B Sai Sudharsan were out for zero runs in the first over by Chris Woakes.

At 0/2, the Indian innings seemed to be over before it even started. But coming back strong, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul brought peace to the chaos.

They played hard, stayed calm, and showed great focus against a fast-moving ball and a strong English team. Rahul stood still like a big stone in the water, while Gill moved carefully and boldly, finding openings with perfect timing.

He scored fifty runs, which was a big deal for him: the most runs by an Indian captain in one Test series (694), beating Virat Kohli’s 692 from 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Historic Records & Tactical Brilliance from India’s Duo

Even though they are behind by 137 runs at the end of the day, the Indian team can feel better knowing that their top players have been strong. KL Rahul scored 87 not out from 210 balls, showing he can handle pressure well.

Shubman Gill made 78 not out from 167 balls, mixing style with strength. Gill did more than just break Kohli’s record. He made history as the first Asian player to score over 650 runs in one Test series in England, beating Mohammad Yousuf’s 631 from 2006.

[TRENDING] Injuries, Comebacks & the Road Ahead on Day 5

The last day will be very exciting. England needs to get 8 wickets. India has to either hold on or score runs, and time will decide everything.

Rishabh Pant might not be able to play, and KL Rahul is hurt. If there are problems, India’s lower order could face challenges soon. Ben Stokes has a hurt hamstring and hasn’t bowled at all in India’s second innings, which could change the game.

England, missing their important captain’s bowling, have depended a lot on their spinners and Woakes. But, they still haven’t found the special way to get past the 174-run barrier.

Since cloudy weather is expected, swing might come back into the picture. If India can play for two sessions, they will tie the match and keep the series going.

Writer’s Thoughts

As a writer and cricket reporter, this was a day when both captains showed their true feelings. From Stokes’ amazing performance to Gill’s smart play, the scene at Old Trafford was perfect.

India’s comeback after a rough start was like a movie. Day 5 is now a big surprise. Can Gill and Rahul make a great escape, or will England win and take the series?
