Intralot is considering legal action after discovering that it was no longer the preferred bidder for the ten-year, $260m Maryland Lottery contract.
The Greece-based company issued a statement on July 17 saying that it was chosen as the preferred bidder for a contract to provide self-service vending machines and counter terminals in the state, as well as provide various types of software.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) has now reversed its decision, with a review of the bidding process determining that its choice was the wrong one. It instead believes Scientific Games is the most suitable option, although it emphasized that it hasn’t made a final decision yet.
Intralot isn’t happy with the U-turn, saying that it was told the issue had to do with not hitting the minimum necessary ratio of local subcontractors.
It labeled the MLGCA’s decision as “a great surprise” and said that it did, in fact, greatly exceed the necessary local subcontractor requirement. Intralot also pointed out how the agency had told all applicants that they were compliant with the eligibility rules.
Referencing the rival bid from Scientific Games, the statement said that its own offer was “by far the most financially advantageous, significantly outperforming the second-best offer.”
