The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has released public records relating to the man who recently entered a Manhattan skyscraper on July 28 and shot dead four people before turning the gun on himself.
The public now can view body camera footage from officers involved in previous interactions with Shane Tamura, hear 911 calls, and read documents relating to the incidents.

The LVMPD said in a statement that it wouldn’t usually release records of this kind due to privacy protections, with this being an exception due to the “extraordinary circumstances.”
Mental health issues
The newly released records provide details on two separate interventions officers made regarding Tamura’s mental health crises.

The first occurred in September 2022. An application for emergency admission to a mental health facility details that Tamura was feeling suicidal as a result of family issues.
It noted that he owned a gun, although he didn’t have it on his person at the time of the incident. The 911 caller outlines that Tamura was threatening to kill himself with a gun at a motel:
The caller said Tamura was under a doctor’s care for depression, sports concussions, chronic migraine, and insomnia.
The second happened in August 2024. An officer claimed they had reason to believe that Tamura “if left alone could cause serious injury to himself or death”:
His life in Vegas
Tamura had other brushes with the law, including an arrest on his record in September 2023 for trespassing at the Red Rock Resorts after failing to show ID. He wouldn’t leave the property until he got his $5,000 in winnings:
Tamura worked at the Horseshoe Las Vegas as part of the security surveillance team. Many people on social media wondered how he was allowed to work in security despite his mental health episodes.
Tamura failed to show up to his shift on the day of the shooting, as he was driving cross-country to New York. His intention was to go to the NFL’s office, as he believed he had CTE and blamed his youth days of playing football for the traumatic brain disease.
Law enforcement discovered that his boss at the Horseshoe Las Vegas had sold him the assault rifle used in the fatal shooting for $1,400.
