State offices across Nevada were still closed on Tuesday due to the effects of a major cyberattack. Governor Joe Lombardo’s office revealed that the incident initially occurred in the early hours of Monday morning and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The state is looking to prioritize the restoration of the most important services, with emergency supports remaining active. It also has not seen any evidence that personal information was compromised during the attack.

While it’s unclear if the hackers made any ransom demands, people on social media still debated whether it might be better to pay them off. Some argued governments can’t give in to these types of demands, while others pointed towards learnings from recent incidents involving major casino companies:
MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment suffered cyberattacks in the fall of 2023, with both taking different approaches. Caesars paid a $15m ransom and its systems were soon back up and running after minor disruption. MGM, on the other hand, refused to pay anything. The mass disruption lasted for more than a week and cost the company a reported $100m.
